Your first tango lesson can be intimidating particularly if you choose to come by yourself. We make a point of
welcoming newcomers whether they are experienced dancers from other communities or complete beginners.
We run a weekly beginners class every Friday. No special clothing is required but a pair of slippery-soled shoes
(ideally, leather) will make your life much easier. Tango at its most basic is a walking dance. You will begin by learning to walk to the music and establish a
connection with your partner. During the course of the lesson you will change partners regularly to get used to leading or following different people. This will also mean that by the time the lesson finishes and the evening's
dancing takes over you will already have got to know at least half a dozen people.
You don't have to dance all evening. There is ample opportunity to have a drink and compare notes with
other dancers. You won't find yourself sitting out all night. We want to share our enthusiasm for the dance. Our
primary aim is to build a tango community so you will see the more experienced dancers dancing with everyone else
- including complete newcomers.
And finally - tango is a close dance. So bear in mind that good personal hygiene will make you more appealing as a
partner.
